WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross volleyball head coach
Kathleen Colpoys has named senior
Sanaea Simmons along with juniors
Abbie Lane and
Rian Millership as captains for the 2023 campaign.
"Our coaching staff is really looking forward to working with this group and are thrilled to have them lead our team this upcoming fall," said Colpoys. "These three leaders all grew throughout the offseason and possess different strengths that will complement each other extremely well. They are committed to achieving competitive success, continuing to enhance our culture, and leading off the court in the classroom and the community."
Simmons was a captain during the 2022 campaign while Lane and Millership are first-time captains.
Simmons appeared in 26 matches for the Crusaders last year leading the squad in total blocks (44) while ranking fifth in kills (66). In the 3-1 home win against Bucknell on Oct. 28, Simmons produced a season-best four total blocks in the victory.
Lane was the team leader in kills (196) and kills per set (2.42) while ranking second in digs (231) and digs per set (2.85). She tallied six double-doubles, nine double-digit kill games and 12 double-digit dig contests, with nine of them coming over her last 13 matches. She was also named to the 2022 Friar Volleyball Classic All-Tournament Team.
Millership posted 38 total blocks in 2022 for the Crusaders which ranked third on the team. She matched a career-high with four blocks against Loyola (Md.) on Sept. 17 and recorded a career-high five kills, with three blocks and a .500 hitting percentage at Lafayette on Oct. 9.
