HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Holy Cross volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of Patriot League foe Colgate on Sunday afternoon in Cottrell Court.
The loss was the 14th of the season for Crusaders and sixth in conference play while the host Raiders improve to 11-5, 6-0 PL
SET SCORES:
Raiders 3, Crusaders 0 (18-25, 13-25, 20-25)
HOW IT HAPPENED:Â
- Freshman middle blocker Isa Glover and freshman outside hitter Ava White teamed up for a block to level the score 2-2 early in the first set. Five straight markers for the hosts put them ahead 7-2. Senior setter Katie Russell set up junior outside hitter Lily Eigner for the first Crusader kill of the match to stop the scoring binge. Freshman middle blocker Kyla Harris powered the ball from the middle trimming the deficit to four, 9-5. Ahead by four, a kill and three straight Colgate aces expanded the lead to seven 20-13. Colgate won the opening set.
- Junior outside hitter Taliah Lee's second kill of the second set brought her squad within three at 6-3. Three in a row by Colgate increased their score to 9-3. Back-to-back Crusader kills by sophomore middle blocker Lacey Murphy and White made it 14-8. A three kill stretch by freshman settler/right side KK Green, senior right side Gracie Reisman and Isa Glover dropped the margin to 18-11 in favor of Colgate. The Raiders captured the second set.
- A Lee and two Glover aces to start the third set gave Holy Cross a 6-1 advantage. Colgate grinded back in to the set, but a Lee kill kept her team ahead by two, 13-11. The Raiders regained the lead thanks to five straight markers to pull ahead 16-13. A sophomore defensive specialist Alana Whitwell ace and Green kill dropped the deficit to one, 20-19. Colgate closed out the match.
INSIDE THE BOX:
- Lee recorded a team-high 10 kills. It was her eighth game with double-digit kills this season.
- Glover matched a season-best with two aces.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross remains on the road to face off against non-conference opponent Marist (5-11, 4-1 MAAC) on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
- First serve is set for 6 p.m.
