WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross volleyball freshman outside hitter Emma Sorensen has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference office Tuesday following a collection of votes by the league head coaches.
 
Sorensen becomes the seventh different Crusader to be named Patriot League Rookie of the Week and the first since Clare Honan's selection on Sept. 25, 2017.
 
The freshman started and played in all three matches for the Crusaders this past week recording 41 kills (3.15 K/S) on .196 hitting with 24 digs (1.85 D/S), three aces, two blocks and an assist. Sorensen started her week with four kills and a dig against Iona on Sept. 23.

During Patriot League contests last week, Sorensen led the league in kills (37) and points (41.0) while ranking fifth in kills per set (3.70) and sixth in points per set (4.10). The newcomer posted 17 kills and 12 digs, hitting .213 with a block and an ace in the five set match against Bucknell (Sept. 26) and then tallied a career-high 20 kills on .333 hitting with 11 digs, two aces and a block in the five set contest versus Lehigh (Sept. 27).

In 2025, Sorensen has six double-double efforts (kills and digs) and has manufactured 15+ kills eight times this season. In conference matches, Sorensen leads the Patriot League in kills (69) and points (77), while ranking fourth in kills per set (3.63), and fifth in points per set (4.05).

The Crusaders (4-12, 0-4 PL) return to their home court on Tuesday, Sept. 30 against non-conference opponent Le Moyne (1-10, 0-0 NEC) with first serve slated for 6:30 p.m.
