WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team dropped its season opener, 3-0, to Northeastern Friday night at Hart Turf Field.
The Crusaders hung tight in the first half, only allowing one goal, despite a 13-2 shot advantage for the Huskies. Northeastern would give itself some breathing room in the third by adding two more tallies to the board.
Holy Cross seemed to find a second gear in the fourth and final frame, out-shooting the Huskies 9-3, and out-earning them in penalty corners, 7-0. The Crusaders put four shots on goal in the fourth, but weren't able to get any to go.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Northeastern held the advantage in shots on the night, 25-11.
- Despite not earning a corner for the first three frames, the Crusaders ended up only trailing the Huskies by two, 9-7.
- Preseason All-Patriot League selection Marcia LaPlante was impressive in goal, making 14 saves for the home team.
- Eight different Crusaders recorded shots on the night, Lily Watson had three and Kristen Weber two.
