Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team dropped its season opener, 3-0, to Northeastern Friday night at Hart Turf Field.

The Crusaders hung tight in the first half, only allowing one goal, despite a 13-2 shot advantage for the Huskies. Northeastern would give itself some breathing room in the third by adding two more tallies to the board.

Holy Cross seemed to find a second gear in the fourth and final frame, out-shooting the Huskies 9-3, and out-earning them in penalty corners, 7-0. The Crusaders put four shots on goal in the fourth, but weren't able to get any to go.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Northeastern held the advantage in shots on the night, 25-11.
  • Despite not earning a corner for the first three frames, the Crusaders ended up only trailing the Huskies by two, 9-7.
  • Preseason All-Patriot League selection Marcia LaPlante was impressive in goal, making 14 saves for the home team.
  • Eight different Crusaders recorded shots on the night, Lily Watson had three and Kristen Weber two.

UP NEXT:

Holy Cross will take on first-year Division I program Merrimack next Friday, Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m. at home.
