Field hockey falls in final seconds to Providence

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Providence, 2-1, on Friday night at the Hart Turf Field.

Providence improves to 2-0 on the season with the win, while Holy Cross moves to 1-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Maguire Sturgis picked up her fourth goal in three games, finding the corner of the goal with 10:04 to play in the third quarter. Junior Saskia Williams was credited with the assist on the penalty corner play.
  • Providence tied the game with a penalty stroke goal nine minutes later, and scored the game winner with five seconds remaining in regulation.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Sophomore Mia McCloskey made nine saves in the contest.
  • Freshman Alexa Birch picked up a defensive save in each half, while sophomore Kendall Brady picked one up in the final minute of the fourth quarter.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will hit the road for the first time this season on Sunday, Sept. 7 when they travel to Dedham, Mass. for a 12 p.m. matchup with Northeastern.
