Field hockey downed by UAlbany in heartbreaking fashion

WORCESTER, Mass. - A late push by UAlbany lifted the Great Danes over the Crusaders, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

With the win, UAlbany improves to 5-2, while the Crusaders fall to 2-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sophomore Kendall Brady gave the Crusaders the 1-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. Collecting a deflected shot by junior Saskia Williams, Brady lifted a backhand shot over the outstretched UAlbany netminder for the score.
  • The Great Danes tied the game at 1-1 5:37 into the second quarter, but back-to-back penalty corner goals by Brady and senior Megan Schienbein gave Holy Cross the 3-1 lead going into the halftime break.
  • UAlbany came out swinging in the third quarter, cutting the Crusader lead to one just over a minute into the second half.
  • After pulling their netminder in favor of the extra attacker, UAlbany netted two goals in 82 seconds to take the match.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Brady's two goal game was her first multi-goal effort of her collegiate career.
  • Sophomore Mia McCloskey recorded seven saves in net.
  • Holy Cross, who entered the matchup seventh in the nation in penalty corners drawn, converted on three of their eight opportunities in the matchup.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will take a short trip to Smithfield, R.I. to face Bryant on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 4 p.m.
