• The Lead: The Crusaders broke another school relay record on Saturday, making a total of four new records set by the team during the Patriot League Championship.

  HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Sophomore Ethan Nightingale (Yarmouth, Maine) had the top finish for the Crusaders in the 200 yard backstroke, placing 23rd in a time of 2:00.87, while sophomore Hayden Kucharski (Bloomfield, N.J.) placed 24th at 2:01.06 and freshman Sam Devine (Cumberland, Maine) came in 26th at 2:01.76.
• Freshman Steve Tierney (Pleasantville, N.Y.) came in 24th overall in the 100 yard freestyle, setting a time of 46.58.
• In the 200 yard breaststroke, junior Andrew Higgins (New Canaan, Conn.) placed 20th with a time of 2:11.07, as freshman David Dillard (Atlanta, Ga.) came in 23rd at 2:12.86 and freshman Aaron Wong (Scarsdale, N.Y.) placed 24th at 2:13.26.
• Senior Tyler Wright (Waterboro, Maine) earned the 21st overall finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.69 as senior Matthew Bates (South Easton, Mass.) placed 29th at 2:11.94.
• Senior David Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) placed 24th in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:44.52.
• In the 400 yard freestyle relay, the squad of Wright, Tierney, freshman Corey Manley (Claymont, Del.) and junior Alex Young (Natick, Mass.) placed eighth with a time of 3:09.61.

BEYOND THE RESULTS:

• The men's time of 3:09.61 in the 400 yard freestyle relay is a new Holy Cross record. This totals three new relay records set by the Crusaders during the Patriot League Championship.
• Wright also set a new Holy Cross record in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.75 during a time trial in Annapolis, Md. this week.

THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:

• This was the first ever men's swimming and diving meet in the Turnpike Trophy competition.
• Boston University earned the point by placing in front of the Crusaders as the Terriers were third and Holy Cross was ninth.
• This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school that accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
• Boston University holds a 7-2 lead in the season series. The Turnpike Trophy competition continues on Feb. 21 with the men's and women's indoor track and field Patriot League Championship. For the schedule of the Turnpike Trophy games go here.
