  • The Lead: Junior forward Maureen Connolly notched a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as Holy Cross defeated Bryant by a score of 3-1 on Senior Day at the Hart Turf Field at the Luth Athletic Complex.

POSTGAME INTERVIEW

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Connolly got the Crusaders on the board in the 20th minute of play, as senior midfielder Lauren Sutherland ripped a shot from outside the circle which was tipped in by Connolly, making it a 1-0 game.
  • The Crusaders made it 2-0 when Connolly scored just five minutes later off a cross from freshman forward Madeline Alderfer.
  • The Bulldogs answered in the 30th minute of play, as Leyna DiMarco scored from the top of the circle off a penalty corner.
  • Holy Cross answered in the 34th minute, as Alderfer earned a goal when a shot was tipped by junior midfielder Rachel Lapar and herself before finding the back of the net.
  • Holy Cross maintained pressure through a scoreless second half, outshooting Bryant 5-4 to help secure the 3-1 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Freshman goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante made five saves in the win for the Crusaders.
  • Marissa Elizardo stopped a pair of shots for Bryant.
  • Shots attempted were 10-9 Holy Cross.
  • Connolly led Holy Cross with five shots, including three on goal.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Connolly is now tied for eighth overall in program history with 15 goals this season, and ninth overall with 37 points. She has also solidified a spot in the school's all-time career records, currently ranking ninth overall in career goals at 31 and ninth overall in career points with 79.
  • The Crusaders now have their most wins since the 2006 season, when Holy Cross was 14-6 overall.
  • LaPlante improves to 8-7 on the year.

UP NEXT

  • Holy Cross will return to action this Friday, Nov. 4, as they take on American in the Patriot League Semifinals at Boston University's New Balance Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
