THE BASICS:

  • The Lead: Harvard's Hannah Wellington tallied two goals in the 13th and 23rd minutes to help lead the Crimson to a 4-0 victory over Holy Cross in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday afternoon.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Harvard scored the contest's first goal in the 10th minute (9:42), as Kaitlyn Boudah recorded the goal with an assist by Catriona McDonald.
  • Wellington tallied both of her goals at the 12:10 mark and the 22:49 mark of the contest to put the Crimson on top 3-0.
  • The Crusaders had a chance to cut into the lead early in the second half, as sophomore midfielder Lauren Sutherland (Watertown, Mass.) launched a shot toward the goal, but it was blocked by the Harvard backline.
  • The Crimson registered the final goal of the contest in the 62nd minute, as Caitlin Rea scored off a penalty corner to give Harvard the 4-0 lead.
  • Holy Cross had an opportunity to score off a penalty corner in the 67th minute, but junior midfielder Kaitlyn Murray (Farmington, Conn.) missed her shot wide of the net.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Crusader sophomore goalkeeper Maya Langman (Crozet, Va.) tied her career-best with 12 stops, while Harvard goalkeepers Issy Davies and Olivia Startup were not called upon to make a save in the shutout effort.
  • The Crimson held the advantages in shots (24-6), shots on goal (16-0) and penalty corners (10-2).

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when it will host its home opener versus Quinnipiac at 7:05 p.m. on the Hart Turf Field.
