Field hockey falls short against Boston University in Patriot League opener

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team opened their Patriot League schedule against local rival Boston University on Friday night at the Hart Turf Field, ultimately falling to the Terriers, 3-2.

Boston University improves to 4-4 (1-1 PL) with the win, while Holy Cross moves to 3-5 (0-1 PL).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Megan Schienbein got the Crusaders on the board with just under four minutes to play in the opening quarter on the attacking penalty corner opportunity. Junior Marissa MacLean sent the insert to senior Julia Carrozza's stick stop, which she pushed ahead for the sweep by Schienbein, which she sent past the outstretched leg of the Terriers' netminder.
  • Boston University tied the game at 1-1 5:32 into the second quarter, before taking the lead just over three minutes into the second half.
  • Sophomore Kendall Brady tied the game at 2-2 just over three minutes later, tipping in a shot by Schienebein on another penalty corner opportunity.
  • Boston University scored the game-winning goal on a penalty corner opportunity with just under eight minutes to play.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Sophomore Mia McCloskey recorded 14 saves in the matchup, a season-high, and just two short of her career-high mark of 16.
  • Carrozza and MacLean extended their point streaks to three games with their goal and assist, respectively.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will welcome Georgetown to the Hart Turf Field on Sunday, Sept. 28 at 12 p.m.
  • The matchup will be the Crusaders' Pediatric Cancer Awareness and Umpire Appreciation game.
