Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Williams scores in final minutes to lift field hockey over Bryant

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Holy Cross field hockey team defeated Bryant, 2-1, Tuesday night on the road at Cowen Field.

With the win, Holy Cross improves to 3-4 on the season, while Bryant moves to 2-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Julia Carrozza scored the lone goal of the first half, picking up loose ball in the circle and sending it into the back of the net.
  • Bryant responded just under three minutes into the second half.
  • With under two minutes remaining in regulation, junior Saskia Williams drew an attacking penalty corner to give the Crusaders the opportunity to take the lead. Junior Marissa MacLean sent the insert to sophomore Jocelyn Monti for the stick stop at the top of the circle, where Williams was waiting for the drag flick, which she sent past the outstretched Bryant netminder for what turned out to be the game-winning goal.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Sophomore Mia McCloskey made four saves in the win.
  • Williams' game-winner was the second of her career.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will return to the Hart Turf Field on Friday, Sept. 26 when they open their Patriot League schedule against Boston University at 3 p.m.
