THE BASICS:

  • The Lead: Lehigh used three different goal scorers to help lift it to a 3-1 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League field hockey action on Saturday morning at Ulrich Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After a scoreless first half that saw a combined 14 shots (8-6, Lehigh), the Mountain Hawks struck first in the 43rd minute of action (42:59). Off a penalty corner, Steph Fratoni redirected a shot by Taylor Mygatt to give Lehigh the 1-0 lead.
  • Less than five minutes later, (47:33), the Mountain Hawks added a goal off the stick of Gabby Tofig to make the score 2-0.
  • Lehigh tallied its final goal in the 68th minute (67:13), as Marissa Glatt lofted a high shot over Holy Cross sophomore goalkeeper Maya Langman (Crozet, Va.) to give the Mountain Hawks the 3-0 advantage.
  • With 40 seconds left in the contest, Holy Cross freshman forward Maureen Connolly (New Canaan, Conn.) scored off an assist by freshman midfielder Rachel Lapar (Wolfeboro, N.H.) to make the score its final, 3-1.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Langman made six saves for Holy Cross, while Lehigh goalkeeper Julia Ward made four stops to earn the win.
  • The Mountain Hawks held the advantage in total shots (19-8), shots on goal (9-5) and penalty corners (5-1).
  • Connolly led the Crusaders with three shots on goal in the contest, while junior Michelle McNeil (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore Gabriella Smith (Mendham, N.J.) each had one on target.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • The goal by Connolly was her third of the season, as she is now tied for first on the squad in goals and points (6). The assist by Lapar was the first of her career.

UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders return to action on Thursday, Oct. 2, when they will host Bryant at 6:05 p.m. on the Hart Turf Field.
