The Lead: The Holy Cross women's indoor track and field team opened team competition at the UMass Boston Indoor Open on Saturday morning as senior co-captain Brianna Tabin (South Hadley, Mass.) had two first-place finishes in the 60 and 200 meter dash, while classmate Alexandra Parise (Pine Bush, N.Y.) set a career-best height in the pole vault. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Holy Cross took the first and second place slots in the 60 meter dash as Tabin finished with a time of 7.72 as senior Mackenzie Arndt (Merrimack, Mass.) followed at 8.01. 
  • Tabin had her second first-place finish of the day in the 200 meter dash, crossing the finish line at 25.69. Senior Payton Shubrick (Springfield, Mass.) followed Tabin in seventh, finishing with a time of 26.94. 
  • In the 500 meter dash, freshman Meghan Dietter (Sherman, Conn.) finished fourth overall with a time of 1:19.41. 
  • Junior Hannah Carey (Windham, N.H.), senior co-captain Fiorella Johnson (Redding, Conn.) and junior Erin Cunningham (Reading, Conn.) rounded out the top-ten in the 800 meter dash, as Carey finished in eighth (2:24.90), Johnson finished in ninth (2:29.63) as Cunningham took 10th (2:30.93). 
  • Arndt took a third place finish in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.47, with freshman Tori Zamarra (Manalapan, N.J.) following in fifth (9.56) and junior Alex Eckert (Bergenfield, N.J.) taking seventh (9.79). 
  • In the 4 x 400 relay, the team comprised of Dietter, junior Oona Wood (Williamstown, Mass.), Shubrick and Johnson, recorded the highest relay finish for the Crusaders, coming in second with a time of 4:04.97. 
  • Junior Morgan Zurlo (Glen Falls, N.J.) took third place in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters with Parise following in 10th with a height of 1.55 meters. 
  • Holy Cross dominated on the pole vault, taking six top-10 finishes. 
  • Parise set a new career-best height in the pole vault, taking first with a height of 3.50 meters, as senior co-captain Michelle McGahan (Acton, Mass.) and freshman Jamison Briggs (Keene, N.H.) tied for second at 3.35 meters.
  • Sophomore Samantha Speroni (Palos Verdes Peninsula, Calif.) finished in third (3.20m), Eckert followed in sixth (3.05m) and junior Nicole Lorinsky (Norwich, Conn.) rounded out the top-10 in ninth (2.90m). 
  • In the long jump, senior Marissa Romano (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) took first with a distance of 5.20 meters with Arndt following in fourth at 5.06 meters. Sophomore Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) finished fifth with a distance of 5.05, as McGahan came in behind at 5.03 meters and senior MaryGrace Brogioli (Wareham, Mass.) taking eighth (5.02m). 
  • Holy Cross dominated in the triple jump as well, taking five top-10 finishes. 
  • Eldracher and Brogioli finished second and third with distances of 10.99 meters and 10.51 meters, as Romano followed in fourth at 10.50 meters. Eckert came in sixth at 10.35 meters with freshman Jessica Stietzel (Stamford, Conn.) coming in seventh at 10.34 meters. 
  • Junior Elizabeth Provost (Adams, Mass.) took sixth in the shot put (11.28m) and fourth in the weight throw (13.11).

  • The Crusaders return to the track as they head to Roxbury, Mass. once again for the Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 13.
