  • Records: Vermont (3-14); Holy Cross (3-15)
  • Location: Worcester, Mass. (Hart Turf Field)
  • Date: Sunday, October 26, 2014
  • The Lead: Vermont's Molly Higgins and Tess O'Brien each tallied a goal to help lead the visiting Catamounts to a 2-0 victory over Holy Cross in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Holy Cross had a chance early in the contest (6:25), as sophomore midfielder Lauren Sutherland (Watertown, Mass.) launched a shot on goal off a penalty corner, but Vermont goalkeeper Lena Benwood made the diving save to her right.
  • Vermont scored the first goal of the contest in the 31st minute (30:27). On a two-on-one offensive opportunity, Ashley McDonald sent a pass across the circle to Higgins, who converted the one-timer from the left side to give the Catamounts the 1-0 lead.
  • In the 46th minute, Vermont had a scoring opportunity off a penalty corner, as Higgins tried to lift a shot over Crusader senior goalkeeper Kat Matchett (Maple Glen, Pa.). Matchett was able to get a pad on the ball and direct the shot away from the goal.
  • Holy Cross almost tied the game in the 57th minute, as freshman forward Maureen Connolly (New Canaan, Conn.) received a centering pass from junior forward Katy Cronin (Franklin, Mass.). Connolly's one-timer, however, sailed just wide of the net.
  • The Catamounts added an insurance marker in the 66th minute (65:20), as O'Brien cleaned up a loose ball in the middle of the circle to make the score its final, 2-0.
