WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior left-handed pitcher Luke Dawson has been named the ckSmithSuperior Crusader of the Week, for competition from Feb. 17-23. Dawson led the Holy Cross baseball team to its first victory of the season at Old Dominion on Saturday.

During the 7-0 win over the Monarchs in the second game of a doubleheader, Dawson threw eight shutout innings to earn the victory. He allowed just seven hits, six of them singles, and walked one batter while striking out four. Dawson set a new career-high for innings pitched, while tying his career-best mark for strikeouts.

On the season, Dawson stands 1-1 with six strikeouts and an 0.73 earned run average. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has a 2-2 record with 52 strikeouts and a 5.81 earned run average in 62 innings pitched.

The Crusaders (1-5 overall) return to action on Saturday, Feb. 29, when they open up a four-game series at Cal State Bakersfield at 4:00 p.m. (EST).
