Freshman outside hitter Emma Sorensen of the Holy Cross volleyball team has been named the Hilton Garden Inn Crusader of the Week for competition from September 1-7.
Sorensen appeared in all three matches for the Crusaders, leading her team to a 2-1 record this past week. She paced the team with 39 kills (3.25 K/S), adding 22 digs (1.83 D/S), which was second on the squad with five total blocks (0.42 BLK/S), an ace, while hitting .275 and posting 42.5 points.Â
She started her weekend at the Mercyhurst Invitational by hitting .667 with four kills, a dig, and a block at Mercyhurst (Sept. 5). Sorensen followed that up by recording her second double-double of the season with a game-high 17 kills, a team-best 13 digs, and a career-high four blocks, hitting .224 in a victory over St. Peter's (Sept. 6). In the final match of the weekend, she hit .277 with a career and contest-high 18 kills and eight digs in a win at Mercyhurst (Sept. 6).
Sorensen leads the Crusaders in kills (56) and kills per set (2.95), while ranking second in digs (36) and third in digs per set (1.89). The newcomer has posted double-digit kills in three of the last four matches.Â
Holy Cross (2-4) returns to the Northeast region on Wednesday, September 10 for an away contest with Bryant (2-4) at 7 p.m.
