Women's basketball heads to Baltimore for Saturday showdown with Loyola

OPENING TIP:
  • Following its second bye of the season, Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 28, and will travel to Baltimore for a road matchup against Loyola Maryland. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. on ESPN+.

HOLY CROSS NOTES: 
  • The Crusaders have won four-straight games and eight of their last nine heading into Saturday's game at 18-9 overall and 12-4 in the Patriot League.
  • Last Saturday, Holy Cross cruised to a 63-41 victory against Bucknell on Senior Day. All four of the Crusaders' seniors posted double figures in the win to help sweep the regular season series with the Bison and extend their win streak against them to nine-straight.
  • Senior guard Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly led the way with 14 points on an efficient 5-of-7 shooting, knocking down 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, while adding seven rebounds, one block, and a steal.
  • Senior forward Meg Cahalan tallied 13 points on 3-of-8 shooting, made 6-of-6 free throws and added three boards.
  • Senior guard Kaitlyn Flanagan notched 12 points on 50.0 percent shooting from the floor to go along with six assists, three steals and a rebound.
  • Senior guard Simone Foreman finished the game with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting, four rebounds, and two dimes.
  • The Crusaders lead the Patriot League in defensive rebounds (27.5) and are second in combined team rebounds (36.1).
  • Holy Cross leads the league in opponent field goal percentage and ranks second in opponent three-point percentage, holding teams to 37.5 percent shooting from the floor and just 28.9 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Junior guard Kendall Eddy ranks second in the Patriot League in steals at 2.3 per game and has tallied multiple steals in 13 of her last 15 games including a career-high six in the victory over Colgate on Jan. 28. and five in her last game vs Bucknell on Feb. 21.
SENIOR STANDOUTS:
  • Holy Cross' senior class of Cahalan, Donnelly, Flanagan and Foreman all have put together incredible final seasons donning the purple and white.
  • The seniors have collectively averaged 39.4 points per game this season.
  • Over their four year careers, Cahalan (801), Donnelly (502), Flanagan (1,015) and Foreman (876) have combined for 3,194 points. 
  • Since first suiting up on the Hill the group is 82-43 overall and 47-23 in Patriot League play.
  • Flanagan was honored prior to Holy Cross' game against Bucknell for becoming the 37th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points. After recording 12 points on Saturday, she moved from 36th to 33rd on the all-time scoring list, passing Phyllis Townsend '84 (1,007) and Sarah Placek '06 (1,008).
THE LOYOLA LOWDOWN:
  • Loyola Maryland is 12-15 overall and 8-8 in the Patriot League following a 58-49 win over Colgate last Saturday. The Greyhounds are currently fifth in the Patriot League standings.
  • Despite ranking last in the league in three-pointers made at just 4.3 per game, the Greyhounds caught fire from beyond the arc, knocking down 11 shots from deep in its win over the Raiders.
  • Lex Therien is Loyola's top scorer at 15.7 points per game to go with 8.5 rebounds, two assists, and 1.6 steals. She ranks fourth in the Patriot League in both points and rebounds.
  • The Greyhounds rank third in the conference in offensive rebounds, averaging 10.3 per game, but sit ninth in the league in defensive rebounding at 22.4 boards per game.

THE HC-LOYALA SERIES:
  • Holy Cross leads the all-time series against Loyola, 18-8, including 17-7 in Patriot League games since the Greyhounds joined the league in 2013.
  • The Crusaders have won 13 of the last 14 match-ups dating back to 2019.
  • Last time out, the Crusaders picked up a 49-40 victory, holding the Greyhounds to their lowest scoring output in conference play this season.
  • Cahalan led the Crusaders with 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting while posting five rebounds and four assists in her team-leading seventh 20-point game of the season.
  • Foreman also finished in double figures, scoring 10 points in the win to go along with three rebounds and an assist.
  • Amandine Amorich led the scoring for Loyola with 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting and 3-of-4 from the line.

MONTH IN REVIEW:
  • The Crusaders are 8-1 since picking up a road win at American on Jan. 24, 70-58. Holy Cross started that stretch with three consecutive wins and bounced back from the one loss to Lehigh (Feb. 7) with a win at Colgate (Feb. 11).
  • Over that stretch, the Crusaders are outscoring opponents 61.6-51.6 and have dominated the fourth quarter and overtime; outscoring the opposition 181-136.
  • Holy Cross has held its opponents to a 34.5 field-goal percentage, while shooting 42.1% in that stretch.
  • Cahalan (16.6) and Flanagan (10.6) have emerged as the primary scoring options for the Crusaders, while Donnelly has averaged 7.9 points and eight rebounds in the last nine games.
