BOSTON, Mass.— The Holy Cross track and field teams competed in day one of the New England (NEICAAA) Indoor Championship from Friday, Mar. 7 to Saturday, Mar. 8 at The Reggie Lewis Center.
MEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Senior captain William Schimitsch clinched second and the silver medal in the 5000m run with a time of 15:02.42 for eight points.
- Senior captain Brian Fennelly currently sits in first place in the heptathlon with 2,571 points, through four of the seven events, at the end of day one.
- Sophomore Tristan Miller claimed third in the 400m prelim to qualify for the final with a time of 50.242. Freshman Arthur Ribeiro also advanced to the final (50.40, seventh).
- Sophomore Luke Boothroyd placed seventh in the 500m prelim with a qualifying time of 1:06.88.
- Senior Andrew Van De Mark (1:56.42, eighth) qualified for the 800m final.
WOMEN'S MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
- Junior Celia Kulis clinched second and the silver medal in the pentathlon with a total of 3,527 points (52 points shy of the school record). While competing in the pentathlon, she set a new meet record in the pentathlon 60m hurdles, winning the event, with a time of 8.63.
- Junior captain Alex Lusby was the fastest in the 800m prelim to advance to the final with a time of 2:14.08. Senior Helene Cummings (2:17.64, fourth) and sophomore Annabel Murray (2:18.40, fifth) also qualified for the final.
- Senior captain Molly O'Connor came in fourth in the 400m prelim with a qualifying time of 57.71. Sophomore Lindsay Gill also qualified for the final placing seventh with a time of 58.36.
- Senior captain Haley Murphy finished fourth in the 500m prelim to qualify for the finals with a time of 1:16.93.
- Senior captain Maura Switzer took fourth in the pole vault (3.71m) picking up five points. Sophomores Alyssa Peasley (3.61m, fifth, four pts.) and Shannon Briseno (3.61m, seventh, two pts.) also scored points for the Crusaders in the event.
- Junior Abby Granrath (3:02.19, sixth) and senior Shannon Jordan (3:05.15, eighth) both advanced to the 1000m run final.
- Junior Ester Mokonchu placed seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 15.93m for two points.
- Senior Giavanna Ciaravino finished seventh in the 200m prelim to qualify for the final with a time of 25.52.
