Women’s basketball takes on Bucknell in pivotal Patriot League game

The Holy Cross women's basketball team travels to Patriot League foe Bucknell on Saturday, March 1 with tip-off set for 2 p.m. in Sojka Pavilion. The contest will be streamed live in ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (17-10, 10-6 PL): 
  • Holy Cross earned a 59-55 win at home against Colgate last time out. Junior Simone Foreman scored a team-high 20 points in 27 minutes off the bench with eight boards and eight free throw conversions. The 20+ point effort was her seventh of the season and the Crusaders are 6-1 (.857) in those games.
  • In 2024-25, Foreman ranks second in the Patriot League in free throw percentage (85.9), ranks fourth in scoring (14.6), fourth in rebounds per game (7.7), sixth in double-doubles (4), sixth in field goal percentage (41.7%) and ninth in steals per game (1.5)
  • Senior Lindsay Berger was named Patriot League honorable mention on Monday for the second time this season. Berger averaged 17.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on 66.7% (14-of-21) shooting in a pair of games last week. Berger is second in the conference in field goal percentage (53.9%, 125-of-232).
  • Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Kit Hughes announced on Monday, Feb. 24 that Candice Green will have her interim tag removed and will serve as the permanent head coach of the Holy Cross women's basketball team. Green took over as interim head coach of the Crusaders in August, and has guided Holy Cross to a 17-10 record this season, including a 10-6 mark in league play. She has a 36-23 (.610) overall record as a head coach. 
  • Junior Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly is one of the top three-point shooters percentage wise in the Patriot League, connecting on a 41.3 percent (43-of-104) of her three-point attempts which ranks second in the conference. Classmate Kaitlyn Flanagan leads the league in assists per game (5.3) and assists (142) and needs 10 more assists for 400 in her career.
  • The Crusaders have only had their shot blocked 43 times this season which is fourth fewest in the NCAA this season.
SCOUTING THE BISON (15-12, 10-6 PL): 
  • Bucknell has lost two of their last three games, but rolled to a 79-45 win against Loyola (Md.) at home on Wednesday. Four players reached double figures, including Ashley Sofilkanich who scored a game-high 16 points with six rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals.
  • In the win against Loyola (Md.), Bucknell shot 61.5 percent (32-of-52) from the field and 52.6 percent (10-of-19) from deep as a team. The 61.5 percent field goal percentage was the highest by a team in the Patriot League this season.
  • Sofilkanich is a five-time Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Player of the Week in 2024-25. She is the conference leader in scoring (19.9), blocks per game (2.2) and blocks (60) while ranking third in rebounds per game (8.5) and field goal percentage (50.5). She ranks 17th in the NCAA in blocks per game.
LAST TIME THEY MET: 
  • The Crusaders are 53-26 (.671) in the series history against the Bison which began in 1991. Holy Cross is 22-17 (.564) against Bucknell on the road.   
  • In their last meeting on Jan. 15, 2025, the Crusaders rolled to a 63-37 win at home. Kaitlyn Flanagan scored 19 points to go with six assists, two steals on 66.7 percent (8-of-12) shooting.
