No. 15 women’s basketball falls to No. 2 Michgan in NCAA First Round

Ann Arbor Mich.- The No. 15 seed Holy Cross women's basketball team's season came to an end in the First Round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament, falling to No. 2 seed Michigan, 83-48, on Friday, Mar. 20, at Crisler Arena.

Senior guard Kaitlyn Flanagan led the Crusaders with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, along with four rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and a steal. 

Senior guard Simone Foreman added eight points on 3-of-9 from the field, 2-of-2 from three, five rebounds and a block.

Senior forward Meg Cahalan chipped in seven points on 3-of-11 shooting, four assists, two rebounds, a steal and a block.

Senior guard Mary-Elizabeth Donnelly posted seven points 3-of-5 from the floor, six rebounds, and assist and a block.

Junior guard Janie Bachmann recorded six points on 3-of-5 shooting, three boards and a block.

Michigan's Mila Hollloway led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting. No. 2 Michigan will face the winner of No. 7 seed NC State and No. 10 Tennessee in the Round of 32 on Sunday.

The Crusaders conclude the 2026 season 23-10 overall, while the Wolverines improve to 26-6. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Michigan opened the game on an 8-0 run, forcing a Crusader timeout at the 8:12 mark of the first quarter.
  • Holy Cross got on the board at the 6:00 mark of the first quarter when Flanagan knocked down a shot in the paint to cut the deficit to 10-2.
  • Bachmann connected on a jumper in the post to make it 12-4 with just under five minutes remaining in the first.
  • Michigan went on an 11-0 run to build a 24-4 lead with 1:28 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Flanagan knocked down her second bucket of the game with 38 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 24-6.
  • Holloway drilled a three at the 11 second mark of the opening quarter, giving the Wolverines a 27-6 lead after one.
  • Flanagan went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to make it 29-8 with 8:14 remaining in the first half.
  • Holloway made a three and Brooke Quarles Daniels went 2-for-2 from the line to extend the Maize and Blue's lead to 34-8.
  • Bachmann got the Crusaders to double-digits with a layup at the 7:10 mark.
  • Donnelly pump-faked a Michigan defender and swished a three at the 6:14 mark to bring the score to 36-13.
  • Back-to-back layups from freshman guard Asia Wilson and Bachmann brought it to 38-19 under three minutes remaining.
  • Foreman drained a three with 43 seconds left in the half, cutting the deficit to 41-22.
  • Michigan took 43-22 lead into the locker room. Flanagan led Holy Cross with six points at the break.
  • The Wolverines started the second half on a 7-0 run to push their lead to 50-22.
  • Foreman gave Holy Cross its first points of the second half with a jumper at the 4:17 mark of the third.
  • Junior guard Eddy and Flanagan both found success from beyond the arc in the third, drilling a pair of threes. Michigan would end the third leading 57-34.
  • Michigan outscored Holy Cross 26-14 in the fourth quarter and won 83-48.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Cahalan (888), Donnelly (592), Flanagan (1,064) and Foreman (922) finish their careers on The Hill with 3,446 total points. They leave Holy Cross with three NCAA Tournament trips and three 20+ win seasons. The seniors also won an NCAA Tournament game, defeating Tennessee-Martin in the 2024 First Four.
  • Flanagan posted double figures for the 13th time this season and the 46th time in her career.
  • Flanagan finishes her Holy Cross career sixth all-time in assists (542) and 30th in points (1,064). The 2026 Patriot League Tournament MVP also owns the program record for career starts, having started all 130 games of her college career.
  • Foreman concludes her Holy Cross career ranked sixth in total rebounds (788) and eighth in rebounding average (7.3 per game).
