Men’s ice hockey to host Mercyhurst to close out first half of the regular season

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's ice hockey team is set to round out its season series with Mercyhurst on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Hart Center Rink.

The game will be broadcast live on FloHockey and NESN+. Fans in attendance who donate a new and unwrapped toy to the team's toy drive in partnership with 508 Forever Young will receive a free ticket to the game.

THE CRUSADERS (9-6-1, 5-1-1 AHA):
  • Holy Cross saw their nine-game unbeaten streak come to an end just before Thanksgiving when they fell to No. 8 Quinnipiac in overtime, 6-7.
  • Throughout their 8-1-1 stretch dating back to Oct. 25 at Army, the Crusaders have outscored opponents, 44-20, and are a combined +125. The goalkeeping tandem of junior Connor MacKenzie and freshman Danick Leroux have combined for a 1.97 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in 608:21 minutes.
  • Senior Matt DeBoer enters the matchup as the newly-appointed Atlantic Hockey Forward of the Week for his effort in November. DeBoer recorded at least a point in all but two of the Crusaders' seven games in the month, finishing with 12 points on six goals and six assists. DeBoer recorded three multi-point games - while also becoming just the third player in Atlantic Hockey this season to record a hat trick, which he did against then-No. 8 Quinnipiac on Nov. 26.
  • Senior Jack Seymour continues to lead the nation with his +20 rating this season, narrowly edging out Michigan's Asher Barnett (+19) for the top spot. The next closest Atlantic Hockey skaters are DeBoer (+11) in a tie for 30th, and sophomore Noah Eyre (+10) in a tie for 41st.
  • Senior Mack Oliphant's 131 career games played makes him one of just two active collegiate defensemen with 130+ games played.
  • Junior Jack Stockfish's 172 face-off wins this season rank second in Atlantic Hockey and 12th in the nation.

SCOUTING MERCYHURST (0-14-1, 0-8-1 AHA):
  • Mercyhurst has yet to win a game this season, entering the weekend with an 0-14-1 record.
  • Since the two sides met in mid-October, Mercyhurst has played ten games, eight of which were Atlantic Hockey matchups.
  • The Lakers most recently played a home-and-home set with Robert Morris, falling on Friday at home, 1-3, before playing to their first tie of the season, 1-1 on the road.
  • In their last five games, Mercyhurst has been outscored 16-8, an improvement from the last time they played the Crusaders, when they had been outscored 28-6 through four games.
  • Mercyhurst is led on offense by Jacob LeBlanc (0-6-6), Will Schumacher (5-0-5), and Dominik Bartecko (2-3-5). Netminder Charles-Edward Gravel leads the Lakers' goaltending trio with a 4.06 goals-against average and .879 save percentage.

ALL TIME SERIES:
  • Mercyhurst holds the all-time series lead 32-20-9.
  • Holy Cross has won the last five matchups, outscoring Mercyhurst 27-9.
  • The two teams met earlier this season in Erie, Pa., where Holy Cross prevailed, 4-0.
  • Junior Connor Welsh scored twice in the matchup and senior Louden Hogg was credited with the shutout.
