WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross head cross country coach Stephanie Reilly has announced the team captains for the upcoming 2024 season.

Rising seniors William Schimitsch and Caroline Gage will return as second year captains. The pair will be accompanied by fellow senior Abby Hughes in her first stint leading the Crusaders.

"With their great leadership and commitment I am excited to announce Will, Abby and Caroline as captains for the 2024 cross country season," Reilly said.

Schimitsch, a computer science major, competed in all five meets of the 2023 season and was Holy Cross's top finisher in three of the five. He finished first for Holy Cross with a personal best time of 16:02.9 (30th, 5k) at the Bryant Nassaney Invitational. He also crossed the first as the top finisher for the Crusaders with a personal best time of 26:27.6 (21st, 8k) at the New England Championship. 

Gage, an English major with a minor in education, was a constant leader for the Crusaders during the 2023 campaign. She competed in all five meets and crossed the first first for Holy Cross in each competition. While donning the Purple & White, she finished first with a personal best time of 19:14.0 (20th, 5k) at the New England Championship.

Hughes, an economic and psychology double major, takes on the role of captain for the first time and provides strong leadership on and off the course. Hughes clocks in right behind fellow teammate and captain, Gage, in all five meets in the 2023 season. She also had a personal best time of 19:20.4 (25th, 5k) at the New England Championship.
