NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Men's and women's cross country competed at the Central Connecticut (CCSU) Mini Meet held at Stanley Quarter Park on Friday, Oct. 25. The men competed against 9 other teams while the women took on 10 other schools.
Senior Abby Hughes was Holy Cross's top finisher claiming ninth place overall with a time of 10:02.98 on the three-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished in fifth with 135 total points. CCSU captured the team title with 53 points, followed by Providence with 63 points and Stony Brook in third with 110 points.
Freshman Sheila Purcell earned a 16th-place finish with a time of 10:13.71, while senior Caroline Gage came in 25th at 10:21.84. Junior Abby Granrath (44th, 10:40.90) and sophomore Siena Brunetti (48th, 10:44.88) round out the Holy Cross top five runners.
Junior Liam Lyons finished 10th overall crossing the finish at 14:55.12 on the five-kilometer course. The Crusaders finished in fifth with a total of 116 points. CCSU captured the team title with 29 points, followed by Providence with 61 points and UMass-Lowell in third with 70 points.
Senior William Schimitsch earned a 14th-place finish with a time of 15:01.77, while freshman Lewis O'Connor came in 39th with a time of 15:30.70. Freshman Jack Larkin (40th, 15:31.12), and sophomore Quinn Salmon (46th, 15:40.64) to round out the Holy Cross top five runners.
The Crusaders return to action on Friday, Nov. 25 when they compete in the Patriot League Championship hosted by Lafayette in Easton, Pa.
