Crusaders to open Patriot League play at Lafayette

The Holy Cross men's soccer team will play its first Patriot League game of the season when it travels to Lafayette for a 6:00 p.m. contest on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Things to Know About the Crusaders (3-3-0, 0-0-0 Patriot League):
• Holy Cross has an overall record of 3-3-0 on the season, and is currently on a three-game winning streak with victories over UMass Lowell (5-4), Iona (2-1) and Hartford (4-2).
• The Crusaders own an all-time mark of 15-13-4 in their opening Patriot League game of the season, including a 7-2-1 record under head coach Marco Koolman.
• Sophomore midfielder Jon Klein is tied for the team lead in scoring with seven points on two goals and three assists. He tallied a goal and an assist in the win over Hartford, after recording a goal and two assists in the victory at UMass Lowell. In 24 career games played, Klein now has five goals and five assists for 15 points.
• Senior midfielder Jack Ostrosky scored the Crusaders' second goal during the victory over Hartford, after netting both of the team's goals in the 2-1 win over Iona. He now ranks third on the team in scoring with six points on three goals, while playing 536 of a possible 540 minutes. Over the course of his collegiate career, Ostrosky has seven goals and five assists for 19 points in 40 games played.
• Sophomore forward Evan Jones is once again among the top offensive threats for Holy Cross this fall, and is tied for the team lead in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist. He scored three goals during the win at UMass Lowell, becoming the first Crusader to record a hat trick since 2013. Last year, Jones was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and the ECAC Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning second team All-Patriot League honors. In 25 career games played, he has now totaled 11 goals and seven assists for 29 points.
• Senior midfielder Matt McGonigle scored his first goal of the season during the victory over UMass Lowell, then netted the game-winning goal against Hartford. On the year, he ranks fourth on the team in scoring with two goals and one assist for five points. McGonigle has now totaled 19 points on six goals and seven assists in 36 career games played.
• McGonigle, Ostrosky and senior defender Taj Salawu are serving as the Crusaders' captains this season.

Scouting the Leopards (4-2-0, 0-0-0 Patriot League):
• Lafayette owns an overall mark of 4-2-0 on the year. The Leopards are coming off 2-1 loss at St. Francis (N.Y.) on Tuesday.
• Sophomore forward Lawrence Aydlett currently leads the team in scoring with eight points on three goals and two assists.
• Senior Alex Sutton has played every minute in goal for Lafayette this season, posting an 0.83 goals against average with 13 saves.

Series History:
• The Leopards hold a 25-8-8 lead in the all-time series between the schools, with a 3-0-1 mark in the last four games.
• The schools last met on Oct. 30, 2021, when they played to a 2-2 double overtime tie in Worcester. Nick Hellmann-Rhodes and Max Krause had goals for Holy Cross, while Hale Lombard and Andrew Venezia scored for Lafayette.
