WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward
Archie Hatcher scored his third goal of the season, as the Holy Cross men's soccer team played Massachusetts to a 1-1 draw at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Crusaders move to 3-4-4 on the season, while the Minutemen now stand 4-3-4 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
• UMass opened the scoring in the 37th minute, when Shane Valez volleyed the ball off the crossbar and into the goal from six yards out.
• Holy Cross responded in the 50th minute, as Hatcher one-timed the ball into the net from just inside the top left side of the box.
• The play began when freshman defender
Luke Myers played a long pass down the center of the field, which freshman forward
Jack Fiedler headed to Hatcher.
• Neither team was able to score again, as the game ended in a tie.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
• The Minutemen finished the game with an 11-6 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.
• Sophomore goalkeeper
Alastair Hafner Schnee made two saves while allowing just one goal in her first career start.
• Hatcher now leads the team in scoring with eight points on three goals and two assists.
NEXT UP:
• Holy Cross returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 5, when it travels to Lehigh for a 2 p.m. game.
