Field hockey signs five to Class of 2026

WORCESTER, Mass.— Holy Cross field hockey head coach Lindsay Jackson announced on Wednesday that five student athletes have signed national letters of intent to play for the Crusaders. Kendall Blomquist (Westwood, Mass.), Julia Carrozza (Ridgefield, Conn.), Coley Leo (Shavertown, Pa.), Megan Schienbein (Vancouver, B.C.) and Izzy van der Spuy (Kingswood, Surrey, England) will join Holy Cross in the fall of 2022.

"I am very excited to announce this stellar well rounded class that we have joining us here at Holy Cross," remarked Jackson. "Each member of this class brings unique experience and positional skills to the table and we feel they will have a great impact on the program! We are so excited to welcome Izzy, Megan, Julia, Kendall and Coley to be Crusaders!"

Blomquist, a midfielder, played four years of varsity field hockey under head coach Heather Joyce at Westwood. A team captain and team MVP as a senior, Blomquist helped lead Westwood to its first-ever final four appearance in the MIAA state tournament. Blomquist was a three-time selection as a Tri-Valley League All-Star (2019, 2020, 2021) and was secluded for the MSFHCA Senior All-Star game. Additionally, she competed for Lead The Way under head coach Rebecca Campbell.

Carrozza plays in the midfield and as a forward as a four-year member of the varsity field hockey program at Ridgefield under head coach Jessica DeLuca. A two-time team captain, Carrozza was named to the All-FCIAC First Team in 2021 and was an honorable mention selection in 2019.

Leo, a forward and midfielder, played four years of varsity field hockey between Wyoming Seminary and Lake Lehman under head coaches Karen Klassner and Jean Lipski, respectively. A team captain in 2021, Leo helped lead her Wyoming Seminary team to back-to-back State Championships in 2020 and 2021. Leo also played club field hockey for the Electric Surge.

Schienbein, played five seasons of varsity field hockey at Windsor under head coach Brook Sihota. A 2021 team captain, she helped lead her team to win the North Shore Conference Championship in 2021.  Was selected as a North Shore Senior Girls Field Hockey First Team All-Star in 2017 and 2019. Schienbein played club field hockey for the West Vancouver Field Hockey Club under Matt Nosworthy. She also international experience, competing for the U16 Junior Canadian National Team and currently trains with the NextGen Junior Canadian Development Squad.

Izzy van der Spuy plays defense and midfield for Reigate Grammar School under head coaches Robert Field and Rebecca Wickham. A team captain, van der Spuy helped lead her team to the National Finals in 2018. Played club field hockey for Epsom Hockey Club and Wimbledon Hockey Club.
