Field hockey falls at American in season finale

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to American, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Jacobs Recreational Complex.

Holy Cross concludes their season at 6-10 (2-4 PL), while American enters the Patriot League postseason tournament at 12-5 (6-0 PL).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • American struck first on a penalty stroke 3:15 into the contest.
  • Receiving a ball inside the circle, freshman Martina di Gregorio Giralt carried the ball to the endline before flipping a reverse stick shot past the American netminder to tie the game.
  • American took the lead with 1:34 to play in the opening period, and extended the lead to 3-1 halfway through the second quarter.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Sophomore Mia McCloskey recorded four saves in the contest.
  • di Gregorio Giralt finishes the season with four goals, the most among Holy Cross rookies and third-most on the team overall.
  • Holy Cross held the edge in penalty corners, 5-3.
