WORCESTER, Mass.— The Holy Cross field hockey team will welcome Brown to Hart Turf Field on Tuesday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
Joining the Crusaders as honorary captains for the game will be former players, Wendy (Barker) Smith '89, Beth (Tracey) Henderson '89 and Maura (O'Brien) Champigny '89. The trio all played for the Crusaders from 1985-88. Smith's daughter Keely is currently a senior on the team, while Henderson's daughter Isabella is a junior.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (4-5, 0-3 PL):
- The Crusaders will be looking to rebound against Brown after dropping to Lehigh on Saturday, 5-0.
- Holy Cross owns a 3-1 record at home and a 2-1 record on Tuesdays this season.
- Junior Sinead Walsh leads the Crusaders with 10 points off three goals and four assists, while freshman Meggan Fourie sits in second with eight points on three goals and two assists.
- Sophomore Allie McDonough and Fourie each have two game-winning goals on the season.
- In goal, junior Emma Lauber and sophomore Brooke Ross have each posted a shutout this season.
SCOUTING BROWN (4-5, 1-1 IVY):
- The Bears most recently snapped a four-game losing streak, defeating Dartmouth, 3-0.
- Against common opponents this season, Holy Cross and Brown each have wins over Saint Francis, Merrimack and Bryant, and each team dropped to Vermont.
- Brown is led by Danielle van Rootselaar, with six goals and 15 points.
- Three Brown goalies have seen time this season, with Jodie Brine and Calista Manuzza seeing the bulk of the minutes. Manuzza most recently recorded her first career shutout against Dartmouth.
- Brown is tied for 11th in the country, averaging 7.62 penalty corners per contest.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
- Brown holds a 24-11 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools.
- Holy Cross and Brown met every year from 1985 until 2020, the series returns after missing the 2020 season due COVID-19 scheduling.
- In 2019, Brown won, 1-0. The Crusaders last victory in the series came in 2017, 4-1.
