Field hockey blanked on senior day by Maine

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team fell to Maine, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

With the win, Maine improves to 6-10, while Holy Cross moves to 6-9.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams played an even first quarter, with Maine holding the slight lead in shots, 4-3.
  • Maine found the back of the net twice in the second quarter, converting on two penalty corner opportunities in under four minutes.
  • The second half was just as even as the first quarter was, with Maine holding the lead in shots, 10-6, but Holy Cross holding the edge in penalty corner opportunities, 6-2.

BEYOND THE BOX:
  • Sophomore Mia McCloskey made a season-high 14 saves in net in the contest. The game marked her fourth outing with double-digit saves.
  • Senior Megan Schienbein picked up her first defensive save of the season in the third quarter.
  • Prior to the matchup, the team recognized their five seniors playing in their final regular season home game of their careers: Julia Carrozza, Izzy van der Spuy, Coley Leo, Kendall Blomquist, and Schienbein.

UP NEXT:
  • Holy Cross will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on American in their final game of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
