WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team shut out Lehigh, 2-0, in Patriot League action on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Turf Field.

Holy Cross improves to 5-8 (1-3 PL) with the win, while Lehigh moves to 3-10 (1-3 PL) with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Junior Maguire Sturgis got the Crusaders on the board with what turned out to be the game-winning goal just over nine minutes into the contest. Forcing the turnover at the offensive 25, Sturgis carried the ball into the circle on the breakaway before sending it past the Lehigh netminder.
• Junior Saskia Williams extended the lead to 2-0 with her third goal of the season on an attacking penalty corner opportunity. Following a stick stop by senior Julia Carrozza, Williams' give-and-go with Sturgis resulted in a sweep-in goal.

BEYOND THE BOX:

• Sophomore Mia McCloskey recorded seven saves in her second shut out of the season. McCloskey's 2.58 goals-against average and .746 save percentage this season rank fourth in the Patriot League, and her 97 saves and 7.46 saves per game lead the league.
• Sophomore Kendall Brady picked up her team-leading fourth defensive save of the season in the third quarter to keep the game scoreless. She is currently tied for second in the Patriot League in the category, and fourth in the nation.

UP NEXT:

• Holy Cross will welcome another Patriot League foe to the Hart Turf Field in Colgate on Friday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m.
• The matchup will be the Crusaders' Cousy Cup, Alumni, and Purple Forever game.
