Crusaders set for No. 22 American

WORCESTER, Mass.— The Holy Cross field hockey team will travel to face No. 22 American in Patriot League action on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.

The game will stream live on ESPN+.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT HOLY CROSS (5-7, 1-3 PL):
  • The Crusaders are coming off of a 3-0 loss to UMass Lowell in conference action. Prior to that game, Holy Cross defeated Colgate, 3-2, in overtime to claim its first Patriot League win.
  • Holy Cross will be taking on its first ranked opponent since facing then-No. 21 Monmouth on Oct. 27, 2019. The Crusaders dropped a tight, 2-1, match to Monmouth.
  • Junior Sinead Walsh leads the Crusaders with 11 points off three goals and five assists. Walsh's 11 points are a career-high and her five assists are tied for the fifth-best mark in the PL.
  • Sophomore Allie McDonough and freshman Meggan Fourie have each tallied two game-winning goals for the Crusaders.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES (7-3, 3-0 PL):
  • American sits as the top team in the Patriot League and the only remaining undefeated team. The Eagles are riding a two-game winning streak after defeating league rivals Lehigh, 2-0, and Bucknell, 3-2.
  • The Eagles own a 2-1 record at home this season, with their lone loss at the hands of then-No. 9 Maryland, 4-0.
  • Noor Coenen has a team-high 15 points on five goals and five assists. Her 1.5 points per game average is the fifth-best mark in the conference.
  • Bryn Underwood has played all but four minutes in goal for the Eagles. Underwood's .789 save percentage is tops in the Patriot League.
LAST TIME THEY MET:
  • Holy Cross and American last met in the 2019 season, meeting twice with American winning both contests. The Eagles won the regular season matchup, 3-2, and then defeated the Crusaders, 5-1, in the Patriot League tournament semifinals.
  • American owns a 23-3 edge in the series history, with the last Crusader win coming in 2002.
