WORCESTER, Mass. - In the second minute of double overtime, junior Minke Koomen's goal gave the Holy Cross field hockey team a 2-1 victory over Bryant University Tuesday evening. Koomen received the pass with her back to goal, fought her way around a defender and let it rip, skipping the ball right by the Bulldog goalkeeper.
The Crusaders move to 3-4 on the year as Bryant falls to 0-8.
Sophomore Keely Smith broke the stalemate in the third quarter when she took a pass from freshman Sinead Walsh and lifted her shot over the outstretched leg of the Bulldog goalie. Bryant would tie it up in the fourth with a goal by Taryn Rauff. Rauff led all players with five shots on goal on the night.
The game would stay tied through the first overtime period before Koomen notched the game-winner in the 72nd minute.
