WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team defeated Navy, 12-9. Justin Lynskey led with four goals and one assist for five points, while three other Crusaders tallied two-goal games.

 

In the first quarter, Navy (4-5, 2-3 PL) scored first at 12:39 to open the game and marked the only Midshipmen lead of the game. The Crusaders (4-5, 1-3 PL) quickly responded as Will Spangenberg scored his 10th of the season on a man-up situation at 10:07. With 1:00 remaining the first quarter, Justin Lynskey scored his first of the day to put Holy Cross ahead, 2-1.

 

The second quarter saw more scoring from Navy as they outscored Holy Cross, 3-2, to tie the game at half-time (4-4). Connor Waldron recorded his first of the day at 7:28, with the first of three Drew Babiak assists. At 6:58, Lynskey scored the Crusaders second man-up goal of the day.

 

Holy Cross opened the third quarter scoring with a goal from Babiak at 13:58 to take a 5-4 lead. Navy evened things once again at 10:29, 5-5. The Crusaders tallied consecutive goals in under one minute, Sean Mullaney scored at 8:12 and Lyskey at 7:21 to lead 7-5.

 

The Midshipmen responded with consecutive goals of their own to tie the game at seven apiece. With 2:10 to play in the third quarter, Kodzis fired off Holy Cross' third man-up goal of the game and took back the Crusaders lead, 8-7.

 

In the fourth quarter, Holy Cross outscored Navy, 4-2. At 13:59 Kodzis tallied his second of the day after a caused turnover by Spangenberg to lead 9-7. Navy narrowed the gap at 6:56, but Holy Cross responded at 6:05, again from Mullaney (10-8).

 

Navy threatened once more with a goal at 5:15 to again push the game to a one-goal differential but Lynskey added Holy Cross' fourth-man up goal and put any Navy comeback at bay. With 41 seconds remaining, Waldron capped of the game with his 11th of the season and secured the win, 12-9.

 

NOTES & NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross outshot Navy, 46-27.
  • The Crusaders had 16 turnovers and Navy recorded 22.
  • As a team, Holy Cross caused 13 of Navy's 22 turnovers.
  • Dan O'Connell went 12-for-25 at the faceoff.
  • Jonathan Tesoro recorded nine saves.
