WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team fell to Lehigh, 13-5, in Patriot League action Saturday afternoon at the Ulrich Sports Complex in Bethlehem, Pa.
With the win, Lehigh improves to 5-4 (2-2 PL), while Holy Cross also moves to 5-4 (2-2 PL) with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Owen Tunney scored the lone goal for either side in the first quarter, finding the back of the net three minutes into the contest.
- Sophomore Andrew Ottomanelli extended the lead to 2-0 1:27 into the second quarter, before Lehigh cut the lead in half four minutes later.
- Junior Will Deo regained the two goal lead for the Crusaders with 7:58 remaining in the half, but a three goal run by Lehigh gave the Mountain Hawks the 4-3 lead going into the halftime break.
- The third quarter spelled trouble as Holy Cross was outscored 5-1 in the frame, with Tunney picking up his second of the game.
- Tunney completed his hat trick in the fourth quarter, but four goals by the Lehigh offense gave the Mountain Hawks the 13-5 win.
BEYOND THE BOX:
- Senior JR Long recorded ten saves in just under 58 minutes before senior Sean Miller closed out the game in relief.
- Sophomore Harry Attell led both sides with seven faceoff wins, finishing the afternoon with a 70% success rate.
- Senior Michael Rincon led both sides with five ground ball pickups, while junior Cooper Fallon led the Crusaders with two caused turnovers.
UP NEXT:
- Holy Cross returns home next Saturday, March 28, to face Loyola (Md.). Opening faceoff is set for 1 p.m. at Kuzniewski Field.
- Alumni and friends of the program are encouraged to register for the team's Alumni Day celebration, with a pregame reception scheduled for 11 a.m. on March 28. Registration is open until Thursday, March 26.
