Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team was edged in the final minutes of action by No. 18 Army West Point, 7-6. The Crusaders outscored the Black Knights, 4-0, in the third quarter to take 6-5 lead going into the final 15-minutes of action. The one-goal lead was not enough to hold off Army.

In the first quarter, both teams played strong defensively as Army (6-2, 2-1 PL) took a 2-0 lead. Jonathan Tesoro recorded six saves in the opening frame as the Crusaders' (2-5, 0-3 PL) best defender. Holy Cross recorded nine shots and had five stopped by Army's netminder, AJ Barretto.

Baretto went on to stop the Crusaders' first 11 shots before Holy Cross was able to get on the score board. Army held a 3-0 lead until 7:04 remained in the first half, when Justin Lynskey broke through. Army added a fourth goal in the quarter with 1:21 to play to hold a 4-1 lead heading into halftime.

The third quarter was all Holy Cross, as the Crusaders dominated with four-consecutive goals. Kevin Kodzis scored at 6:58, Lynskey at 4:55, and Connor Waldron at 4:40. With a two minute penalty, Holy Cross scored a man-down goal from Kodzis at 2:01. The second Kodzis goal also put the Crusaders ahead, 5-4.

In the third quarter, the Crusaders outshot the Black Knights, 14-1. Holy Cross' defense held Army from a shot, and zero on goal, in the quarter. Dan O'Connell also went perfect at the faceoff, winning all five.

The final 15-minutes of action saw three goals from Army to take the lead, 7-5. The Black Knights evened the game with just over 10 minutes to play. With 2:03 to go, Army added to the lead, 7-5. Holy Cross continued to pressure but Army was able to beat the 10-man ride and score with 42 seconds. Waldron scored with 11 seconds remaining to push the game within one. In the final 10 seconds of action, the Crusaders put up two more shots but could not beat Army's Barreto, who had a career-game with 19 saves.
