LOWELL, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's lacrosse team downed UMass Lowell, 12-7, on Tuesday night. Three Crusaders marked career highs as the team went on a nine goal run through the first three quarters of the game. Kevin Kodzis led the team with seven points and Connor Waldron picked up four assists as the Crusaders picked up their first win of the 2019 season. Holy Cross improves to 1-2 and UMass Lowell moves to 1-1.

 

Despite UMass Lowell scoring the first goal of the game less than one minute into the opening quarter, the Crusaders went on to score nine unanswered goals.

 

Sean Mullaney started off the scoring with an assist from Connor Waldron and added a second goal less than two minutes later to put Holy Cross up, 2-1. Drew Babiak scored his first of the night for his second of the season. Kevin Kodzis put Holy Cross on top, 4-1, followed by Will Spangenberg to close the first quarter, 5-1.

 

Kodzis rattled off two-consecutive goals to complete his hat trick in the second quarter. Kodzis recorded his third goal on a man-up opportunity and was the only goal scorer in the second quarter.

 

The Crusaders opened the third quarter with another Babiak goal to lead, 8-1. Holy Cross capped off its nine goal run from a fourth Kodzis goal with 5:34 to play in the third quarter. Lowell ended the Crusader run off of their second goal of the game with 51 seconds to play in the quarter.

 

The River Hawks showed more offense in the final 15 minutes of the game as they outscored the Crusaders, 5-3. Spangenberg added his second of the game and Andrew Helfrich tallied his first career goal on a man-up situation. Kodzis capped off the Crusader scoring with his fifth of the day. 

 

Holy Cross outshot Lowell, 42-26. The Crusaders picked up 43 ground balls compared to the River Hawks' 29.

 

Holy Cross continued a strong clear, going 21-for-23, and caused 20 turnovers in the game.
