WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team dominated Central Connecticut State, 20-3, at Kuzniewski Field. Keely Connors posted five goals and six draw controls and one assist for a career-high six points. Izzy Grant recorded her first hat-trick. Holy Cross improves to 1-1 on the season and CCSU drops to 0-1.

 

The game started out all Holy Cross as the Crusaders put up five goals in a 10 minute stretch. Audrey Mandaro started the scoring, followed by Connors. Mandaro added her second of the day right before Sydney Brant scored her first collegiate goal by rushing up the field and heading to goal.

 

With 16 minutes to play in the first half, the Blue Devils broke through with a goal from Molly Coogan. Jessica Denike added the second CCSU goal with just over nine minutes to play in the first half and to push the game to 5-2.

 

The Crusaders went on to score four goals to close the half, 9-2. With 4:11 remaining in the first half, Holy Cross went on to score 13 consecutive goals and took a commanding 18-2 lead with 10:42 remaining in the game. During that span, Jordyn Arakelian recorded her first and second collegiate goals.

 

Izzy Grant tallied a hat trick, starting her scoring in the second half. After the Blue Devils added their third and final goal of the game with 9:03 to play, Haley Walker scored her first collegiate goal. With seven seconds left, Connors capped off a five-goal day and put the Crusaders ahead, 20-3.

 

NOTES & NUMBERS:

  • The last time the Crusaders recorded 20 goals in a game was a 20-10 win over Lafayette on March 9, 2013.
  • Holy Cross outshot Central Connecticut, 47-10.
  • The Crusaders picked up 34 ground balls to CCSU's 16.
  • Holy Cross went 21-23 on the clear, and 11-11 in the first half.
  • Juliana Kubler made three saves in the game.

  • Connors tied a career-high five goals and recorded a career-high in points with six.
  • Haley Walker and Sydney Brant each scored their first collegiate goals.
  • Audrey Mandaro and Izzy Grant each added their first career hat tricks.
  • Connors led with six draw controls and Mandaro marked a career-high with four.
  • Walker led the team with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
