WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross field hockey team opened its 2018 Patriot League season with a 6-1 loss Saturday afternoon at home at Hart Turf Field.
The Crusaders kept up with the Eagles for most of the first half. American scored first in the fifth minute, but Holy Cross answered back seven minutes later when senior Emily Loprete scored on a penalty shot. American added two more in the last three minutes of the half to take the 3-1 lead into the half.
The Crusaders continued to fight in the second half, but just couldn't get another one to go. The Eagles' Noor Coenen, Hannah Moser, and Lucy Whalley scored in the second half to bring American's lead to 6-1 and that's where it ended.
Holy Cross will be back in action next Tuesday when the Crusaders travel to Albany.
