The Lead: Hafsa Moinuddin posted three goals and one assist for four points for the Bears as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Brown, 9-4, on Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After Brown tallied the first three goals of the game, senior Maddie Ward scored off a pass by sophomore Baker Earl and then Ward netted a goal on a free-position shot to cut the Bears' lead to 3-2.
- But Brown then closed out the half with two straight goals to take a 5-2 advantage.
- After the Bears started the second half with two unanswered goals, freshman Bryn Carol found the back of the net off a pass from freshman Maggie Moriarty to make it a 7-3 contest with 25:21 remaining.
- With Brown now leading 8-3, freshman Audrey Mandaro cut the lead to 8-4 when she scored off a pass by Moriarty with 16:08 left.
- But Moinuddin netted the last goal of the game for the 9-4 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brown outshot Holy Cross, 23-21.
- Junior goalie Julia Maloney made seven saves for the Crusaders, while Mikaela Karlsson had 10 saves.
- Brown secured nine draw controls, while Holy Cross had six. Brown had 26 ground balls, while Holy Cross picked up 23.
- The Crusaders went 1-10 on free-position shots, while the Bears went 0-2.
UP NEXT:
- The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 when they travel to Smithfield, R.I. to play Bryant at 12:00 p.m.
