EASTON, Pa. – The Holy Cross field hockey team notched three first-half goals en route to a 4-1 victory over Lafayette to clinch a spot in the Patriot League Tournament. Junior Suzanne Noone was the first to find the back of the net in just the fourth minute of play, tapping in the ball off a cross pass from classmate Emily Loprete. Noone connected with Loprete with a pass of her own across the crease in the ninth minute as Holy Cross extended its lead to 2-0. In the 28th minute, senior Maureen Connolly scored with a top shelf shot on a rebound to give the Crusaders a 3-0 lead which they carried into halftime.
Lafayette notched an answering goal in the 47th minute, as Anna Steps tipped in a shot on a penalty corner play to cut the deficit to two. Senior Rachel Lapar scored in the 61st minute to make it a 4-1 game in favor of the Crusaders, finding the net with a bouncing shot on a corner. The Leopards notched 15 shots in the second half, but the Holy Cross defense limited their shots on goal to just four in the final 35 minutes.
