Men's Swimming And Diving Falls to Providence, 156-142

The Lead: Junior Jake Sbarbaro captured three first-place finishes for the Crusaders, but the Holy Cross men's swimming and diving team fell to Providence, 156-142, in a dual meet on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Sbarbaro took first in the 200-meter freestyle, swimming for a time of 2:00.29. Sbarbaro also placed first in the 200-meter butterfly, recording a time of 2:15.03 and in the 200-meter IM with a time of 2:13.30.
Sbarbaro additionally swam with the 400-meter freestyle relay squad who captured first place for Holy Cross with a time of 3:40.44, just missing the season-best time by 0.02 seconds. Senior co-captain Alex Young, as well as sophomores Corey Manley and Steve Tierney made up the rest of this relay team.
Holy Cross won both diving events with junior Jimmy Nugent, sophomore Riccardo Marcangeli and junior Nick Chevalier leading the way, respectively. Nugent took first place in both the one-meter dives, recording a score of 2:19.22 in his first dive and 157.87 in his second.
Tierney also swam for a first-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 59.32. Manley was right behind him in second place for a time of 1:00.91.
Tierney took second place in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing with a mark of 55.06.
Manley additionally swam well in the 50-meter freestyle, finishing in second place 0.03 seconds behind the first place Providence finisher with a time of 24.63.
Senior co-captain Andrew Higgins took second place in both the 100 (1:07.93) and 200 (2:31.88)-meter breaststrokes.
In the 100-meter backstroke, junior Ethan Nightingale swam for second place, registering a time of 1:04.17.

The Crusaders will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 28 when they host Bryant for senior day.
