The Lead: The Crusaders finished sixth overall at the 2016 Patriot League Outdoor Track and Field in Lewisburg, Pa.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The relay team of freshman Sarah Friess (Castleton on Hudson, N.Y.), sophomore Xanthi Pantazelos (Danvers, Mass.), sophomore Stefanie McArdle (South Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman Alexandra Curtin (Winchester, Mass.) placed fifth overall in the 4x100 m relay with a time of 47.75, qualifying them for the ECAC Championship.
• Sophomore Zoe Matherne (Camp Hill, Pa.) placed third in the 1500 m run, recording a time of 4:29.30, which qualifies for the ECAC Championship.
• In the 400 m dash, sophomore Meghan Dietter (Sherman, Conn.) finished eighth overall with a time of 57.80.
• Friess placed sixth overall in the 100 m dash finals, recording a time of 12.45.
• Senior Catherine Gildea (Milford, Conn.) finished third in the 800 m run with a time of 2:10.03, qualifying for the ECAC Championship.
• In the 400 m hurdles, sophomore Tori Zamarra (Manalapan, N.J.) placed 12th overall in a time of 1:06.48.
• In the 5k race, junior Caroline Carr (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished 12th overall, recording  time of 18:18.41.
• Gildea, Dietter, Matherne and McArdle placed fourth overall in the 4x400 m relay, earning a final time of 3:52.40.
• Junior Aaliyah Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) placed 13th in the shot put, setting a distance of 11.58 m.
• In the high jump, senior Melissa LaCoste (Amherst, N.H.) notched a height of 1.60 m to rank fourth overall.
• Junior Alexa Eldracher (Woodbridge, Conn.) placed fourth in the triple jump, earning a mark of 11.72 m.

THE TURNPIKE TROPHY:

• The Patriot League Championpship marked the first women's outdoor track and field meeting between Holy Cross and Boston University the inaugural Turnpike Trophy competition. Click here for the schedule and results of the Turnpike Trophy.
• The Terriers earned the point by placing in front of the Crusaders in the final standings.
• This athletic series between the in-state Patriot League rivals awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school which accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
• The next Turnpike Trophy match-up will come on May 13, when the women's rowing championship takes place on Lake Quinsigamond.
