Field Hockey Comes Up Short To Lock Haven, 3-2

  • The Lead: Junior forward Maureen Connolly notched a goal and an assist, but Holy Cross fell to Lock Haven by a score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Worcester.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • April Stafford put Lock Haven on the board early, scoring with a tip in front of the net to make it a 1-0 game in the sixth minute.
  • The Bald Eagles extended their lead in the 16th minute of play, as Lydia George was able to find the back of the net after gaining the ball in the circle.
  • Holy Cross would respond in the 49th minute of play, as Connolly ripped a shot from the top of the circle during a penalty corner off a pass from sophomore forward Caroline Bono.
  • In the 55th minute, Lock Haven added another goal as Tamia Roach fired a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner opportunity.
  • Sophomore midfielder Emily Loprete added the second goal for the Crusaders in the 69th minute, as Connolly carried the ball into the circle and found her with a pass across the front of the net.
  • The Crusaders opted for an extra attacker with an empty net immediately following Loprete's goal, but they were unable to tie the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Freshman goalkeeper Marcia LaPlante stopped nine shots for the Crusaders.
  • Paige Stuppy made a pair of saves in goal for the Bald Eagles.
  • Shots attempted were 16-8 Lock Haven.
  • Connolly led Holy Cross with seven attempted shots, including three on net.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Connolly's goal was her 13th of the season, and the 29th of her career. She is now tied for ninth overall in program history for career goals.
  • Loprete's goal was her seventh of the season, and the 17th of her career.

  • Holy Cross is back in action tomorrow, as it hosts Bryant in its regular season finale at the Hart Turf Field at the Luth Athletic Complex at 3:05 p.m.
