• The Lead: American's Natalie Konerth tallied a goal and an assist to help lead the Eagles to a 4-3 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League field hockey action on Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Konerth scored the first goal of the game in the fourth minute (3:46), as she stole a ball from a Holy Cross defender in the circle and scored to put the hosts ahead, 1-0.
• The Crusaders tied the game at 1-1 in the 42nd minute of the game, as sophomore Maureen Connolly (New Canaan, Conn.) scored a breakaway goal from the right side.
• American, however, tallied three straight goals in the 55th, 57th and 58th minutes to gain the 4-1 advantage.
• Holy Cross rallied back with goals by freshman Lauren Ineson (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and senior Kaitlyn Murray (Farmington, Conn.) in the 58th and 70th minutes, but could not get any closer as American held on for the 4-3 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Holy Cross freshman goalkeeper Megan Inch (Perth, Scotland) and American netminder Kate McBeath each made two saves apiece.
• American held the statistical edge in total shots (12-9), shots on goal (6-5) and penalty corners (8-5).
• Murray led all players with three shots on goal in the contest.
