WORCESTER, Mass. - Rusty Giudici '03, Matt Ney '03, Brian Petz '96 and Josh Trott '07 have been named to the Patriot League 25th Anniversary Team for men's soccer. Holy Cross tied with Bucknell and Navy for the second most selections, while Lehigh had five former players make the team. Each school that participates in men's soccer selected 25 players in the voting for the 25th Anniversary Team, and could not vote for its own student-athletes.
Giudici helped lead the Crusaders to three Patriot League regular season titles (1999, 2001 and 2002), while the team won its first Patriot League championship in program history in 2002 to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. A four-time first team All-Patriot League selection and two-time All-New England team member, Giudici was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year in 2002. Giudici was also the 2002 Patriot League Tournament MVP and the 2002 Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete. He is a member of the Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame.
No player amassed more Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week awards than the seven by Ney during his four years with the Crusaders. A member of Holy Cross' Patriot League Tournament championship squad in 2002, Ney was twice named the league's Offensive Player of the Year. A four-time All-Patriot League selection, Ney was named to the first team three times. He also earned All-New England honors twice. Ney holds school records for career points (92) and career goals (38), while ranking third all-time in Patriot League history in both categories. Ney is also a member of the Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame.
Petz ranks in the top 10 in Patriot League history in career points (seventh, 74) and career goals (fifth, 34). A first-team All-Patriot League choice in 1994 and 1995, Petz was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and Men's Soccer Scholar-Athlete as a senior. He also earned 1995 first team All-New England honors. He was chosen for the Patriot League All-Decade team as well. Petz is a member of the Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame.
Trott was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year in 2003 and the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year in 2006. He was named to the All-Patriot League team four times as he earned first team accolades three times. Trott received 2006 first team All-Mid-Atlantic region honors, and 2004 and 2005 second team All-New England accolades. He ranks eighth all-time in Patriot League history in career points (73) and sixth in career goals (33), while standing fourth all-time at Holy Cross in career points and third in career goals. Trott scored a school single-season record 15 goals in 2006, the fifth-most in Patriot League single-season history.
The Patriot League is releasing 25th Anniversary Teams throughout the month of August for each sport that has been sponsored by the league since it became an all-sport conference beginning in the 1990-1991 season. In addition to the 25th Anniversary Teams, coverage throughout the 2015-2016 season will focus on former student-athletes and top stories in the history of the Patriot League.
