THE BASICS:

The Lead: Taylor Hardison scored the game-winning goal for the Terriers in overtime as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Boston University, 9-8, at Holy Cross Field on Wednesday afternoon in Patriot League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Junior Kate Martino (Summit, N.J.) opened up the game with the first goal with 17:40 left in the first half. Sofia Robins answered back with a goal off a free position with 14:00 left in the first half.
  • Senior captain Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) followed up with a beautiful top right corner shot past Caroline Meegan's stick, assisted by senior captain Lissie Russert (Cincinnati, Ohio). Martino then placed another goal in the back of the net off a free position making the score 3-1 with 10:58 left in the first half.
  • Ryan had two back-to-back unassisted goals making the score 5-1 with 4:26 remaining in the first half. The Terriers then scored two consecutive goals, both by Kelsey Marafioti. With 3.8 seconds left in the half the score was 5-3, Crusaders.
  • At the beginning of the second half, Ally Adams came out with a goal and was answered back by Russert off a free position, making the score 6-4 with 26:57 left in the second half.
  • The Terriers then scored two goals making the score 6-6, one by Mallory Collins and one by Hardison. The Crusaders answered back with two consecutive goals, one by junior Kaitlin Concilio (Ridgewood, N.J.), assisted by sophomore Tess MacKay (Simsbury, Conn.), and the other by Martino. The score was 8-6 with 9:16 left in regulation.
  • Collins had a goal off a free position then Remy Nolan scored the equalizer for the Terriers. The score was 8-8 with 1:15 left in the game.
  • The teams went into overtime and Hardison scored the game-winning goal to for the Terriers from a pass by Robins. The final score was 9-8.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Boston University outshot Holy Cross 20-18.
  • Junior Katie Boyle (Devon, Pa.) had four saves for the Crusaders while Caroline Meegan had eight for the Terriers.
  • The Crusaders and the Terriers each had 10 draw controls 10
  • The Crusaders went 2-6 on free position shots while the Terriers went 4-9.
  • Junior Jersey Burns (Salem, N.H.) led the team with three caused turnovers and junior captain Casey Drollinger (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) picked up a team best with four ground balls.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Martino had her second hat-trick of the season and the fifth of her career.
  • Ryan had her third hat-trick of the season and the 18th of her career.
