  • The Lead: Brown's Hannah Rogers tallied two goals and an assist to help lead the Bears to a 4-3 victory over Holy Cross in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon at Goldberger Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Brown broke the stalemate in the 12th minute (11:17), as Hannah Rogers cleaned up a loose ball in the middle of the circle to give the Bears the 1-0 lead.
  • The Crusaders, however, tied the game at 1-1 in the 25th minute (24:18), as freshman Emily Loprete (Watertown, Mass.) tallied a goal after gathering a rebound off a shot by sophomore Maureen Connolly (New Canaan, Conn.).
  • Just over three minutes later (27:39), the Bears grabbed the 2-1 lead, as Lucy Green tipped in a pass from Rogers from the right side.
  • Five minutes later (32:45) Holy Cross would tie the game at 2-2, as freshman Lauren Ineson (Shrewsbury, Mass.) dribbled into the circle and ripped a shot past the Brown goalkeeper.
  • Brown went ahead 3-2 in the 40th minute (39:20), as Rogers tallied her second goal of the game with an assist by Rachel Lanouette.
  • The Crusaders tied the game once again in the 52nd minute (51:57), as Connolly beat the Brown goalkeeper with a shot into the right side of the cage.
  • Brown tallied the game-winning goal in the 57th minute (56:49). Ellie Seid dribbled the ball into the middle of the circle and launched a shot on goal that found the back of the cage.
  • Holy Cross had a pair of chances to tie the game in the 69th minute, as Loprete had a pair of shots on goal, but Brown goalkeeper Katie Hammaker stood tall and made both saves.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Hammaker made five saves for the hosts, while Holy Cross freshman goalkeeper Megan Inch (Perth, Scotland) made four stops for the Crusaders.
  • Holy Cross held the slim edges in total shots (14-13) and penalty corners (3-2), while both teams had eight shots on goal apiece.
  • Connolly led all players with four shots on goal in the contest.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Loprete tallied her team-leading eighth goal of the season, while Ineson and Connolly each recorded their sixth marker of the year.

UP NEXT:

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 17, when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa. to take on Bucknell at 11:00 a.m.
