The Lead: Junior Tyler Wright (Waterford, Maine) was the top swimmer for the Crusaders with two first-place finishes in the 100 backstroke (56.77) and 50 freestyle (22.91) as Holy Cross was edged by Fairfield, 151-149, at the Hart Center on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Crusaders had five first-place finishes and six second-place finishes.
• The 400 medley relay team comprised of Wright, senior captain Jack Swain (West Hartford, Conn.), freshman Jake Sbarbaro (Lakewood, Colo.) and sophomore Alex Young (Natick, Mass.) had the top relay finish for Holy Cross, placing first with a time of 3:41.05.
• Junior David Mullany (Monroe, Conn.) had two third-place finishes in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle with times of 5:13.33 and 45.05.
• Following Wright in the 100 backstroke was freshman Ethan Nightingale (Yarmouth, Maine), touching the wall in third with a time of 58.34. Nightingale also finished third in the 200 backstroke (2:05.82).
• Swain had two-second place finishes coming in the 100 and 200 breaststroke with times of 1:02.69 and 2:21.15. He also finished third in the 200 IM (2:09.36).
• In the 100 breaststroke, sophomore Andrew Higgins (New Canaan, Conn.) followed Swain in third with a time of 1:03.43. Higgins also touched the wall in first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:20.83.
• Touching the wall after Wright in the 50 freestyle was freshman Geneth Chin (South Winston, Conn.) at 23.30.
• Junior Matthew Bates (South Easton, Mass.) took a first place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.58.
• As well as being part of the 400 medley relay team who finished first, Sbarbaro had a first-place finish of his own in the 100 freestyle with a time of 45.63.
• Freshman Hayden Kucharski (Bloomfield, N.J.) had two second-place finishes on the day in the 200 backstroke (2:05.06) and the 200 IM (2:07.45).
• Following Higgins and Swain in the 200 breaststroke was freshman Mark Mueller (Weymouth, Mass.), taking third with a time of 2:27.30.
• Wright finished in second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.37.
• The 400 freestyle relay team including Chin, Young, Kucharski and Sbarbaro had the highest finish for the Crusaders, taking second with a time of 3:21.47.
• On the diving side, senior captain Brendan Higgins (Summit, N.J.) was the top scorer for the Crusaders with a third place finish in the three-meter dive (198.82) and fourth in the one-meter dive (173.17).

• The Crusaders return to the pool after a short break as they get set to travel to Kingston, R.I. for the Harold Anderson Invitational on Friday, Nov. 21 and Saturday, Nov. 22.
