  • The Lead: Boston University sophomore Taylor Blood tallied a pair of goals to help lead the Terriers to a 4-0 victory over Holy Cross in Patriot League field hockey action on Friday evening at New Balance Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Boston University registered the first goal of the contest in the 21st minute (20:57). Off a direct corner, Hester Van Der Laan redirected a shot by Sofi Laurito to put the Terriers on top 1-0.
  • Less than three minutes later (22:04), Blood recorded her first goal of the game after she put back a loose ball in the middle of the circle to put BU ahead 2-0.
  • The Crusaders had a scoring chance in the 27th minute, as junior midfielder Michelle McNeil (Canton, Mass.) had her shot blocked off a penalty corner.
  • Holy Cross had another opportunity in the 32nd minute off another penalty corner, as senior midfielder Colby Lohrey (West Simsbury, Conn.) launched a shot on goal, but BU goalkeeper Valentina Cerda made the save.
  • Early in the second half (37:59), Blood put the Terriers on top 3-0 with a shot from the middle of the circle off an assist by Amanda Cassera.
  • Laurito added the game's final marker in the 55th minute (54:28) with an unassisted goal to make the score 4-0.
  • The Crusaders had a pair of penalty corners in the 65th and 66th minutes, but could not convert on the chances.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross senior goalkeeper Kat Matchett (Maple Glen, Pa.) and sophomore Maya Langman (Crozet, Va.) combined to make five saves, while Cerda and Cammy Jensen made four total stops for BU
  • The Terriers held the advantages in total shots (21-7), shots on goal (9-4) and penalty corners (11-4).

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 22, with a 7:05 p.m. home match versus Brown at the Hart Turf Field.
