Women's Lacrosse Falls To Bucknell, 10-9

LEWISBURG, Pa. – With the contest tied at 8-8 with 12:35 left in the second half, the Bison outscored the Crusaders by a 2-1 margin as the Holy Cross women's lacrosse team fell to Bucknell, 10-9, at Graham Field on Saturday afternoon in Patriot League action. With the loss, the Crusaders fall to 6-9 overall (2-3 PL), while the Bison improve to 4-11 overall (1-5 PL).

The Crusaders took an early 2-0 lead as senior Taylor Zebrowski (Verona, N.J.) and sophomore Lissie Russert (Cincinnati, Ohio) each netted a goal. But the Bison then responded with four straight goals to move out to a 4-2 advantage. The Crusaders then tied the contest at 4-4 as Zebrowski and sophomore Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) each scored a goal. Ryan Wenk netted a goal with 3:29 left in the first half as Bucknell took a 5-4 lead to the half.

Ryan and senior captain Maddie Carrellas (Middletown, R.I.) each scored a goal as the Crusaders took a 6-5 lead with 21:55 left in the second half. Freshman Kaitlin Concilio (Ridgewood, N.J.) posted her team-leading 12th assist on the season on the goal by Ryan. But Bucknell answered with three consecutive goals to take an 8-6 advantage with 16:36 remaining. The Crusaders tied the game at 8-8 when senior captain Kat Sutton (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Zebrowski each found the back of the net. Zebrowski now has five hat-tricks this season and 18 for her career. With 11:05 left, Madison Hurwitz gave Bucknell a one-goal lead and then Cori Thielemann scored off a pass from Wenk to increase the lead to 10-8 with 8:29 remaining. Sutton made it a one-goal game with 5:47 left but that is as close as the Crusaders would get for the 10-9 final score.

Junior goalie Sarah Weber (Summit, N.J.) made seven saves, while Caroline O'Neill posted two saves to earn the victory. Bucknell outshot Holy Cross, 24-17, while the Bison secured 15 ground balls and the Crusaders posted eight. Bucknell tallied 11 draw controls and Holy Cross posted nine, while the Crusaders went 5-8 on free-position shots and the Bison went 0-1.  

The Crusaders return to action for a home game on Wednesday, April 17 at Holy Cross Field versus Central Connecticut at 7:00 p.m.
